Vocational Education & Training (VET)

Sacred Heart students are able to participate in Vocational Education and Training as part of this Trade Training Centre. Guilford Young College (GYC) is the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) – Provider No. 1129 and issues all statements and certificates for students enrolled in these courses. All units of competency received go towards a nationally recognised qualification. Sacred Heart offers the following VET programs for Year 10 students: 

CPC 10111 Certificate I in Construction

To gain the full Certificate I Construction qualification students are required to gain competency in 11 units, including 8 core and 3 electives. During the training at Sacred Heart College students will be offered the units listed below:

  • CPCCVE1011A Undertake a basic construction project
  • CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry
  • CPCCOHS2001A Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry

To gain these units, students must gain competence and will be awarded a ‘statement of attainment’ towards the full Certificate.

Students enrolled in VET Construction have the opportunity to gain their White Card as they work through the three Certificate I units that are offered. Students have the chance to complete a range of practical and industry related theoretical tasks in a work shop environment. Students may elect to do a work experience in their chosen trade as they consider their own pathways into the construction industry.

SIT10216 Certificate I in Hospitality

To gain the full Certificate I qualification students are required to gain competency in 6 units (3 core units and 3 elective units). During the training at Sacred Heart College students will be offered the units listed below and will receive a statement of attainment for any units completed:

  • SITXWHS101 –  Participate in safe work practices
  • SITXFSA001 –  Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITHCCC002 –  Prepare simple dishes (elective)
  • SITHCCC003 –  Prepare sandwiches (elective)

To gain these units, students must gain competence to the industry standard and will be awarded a ‘statement of attainment’ towards the full Certificate.

Students enrolled in VET Hospitality participate in a range of Industry excursions including VET Masterclasses at GYC, Government House tour, Barista training at Drysdale House and dining out at a range of restaurants and cafés within the Hobart area. Students are strongly encouraged to undertake one week of work experience so that they can gain industry experience and strengthen their knowledge and skills.
